Eclectic – a term in design that denotes a tasteful and intentional mixing and matching of different styles that when put together harmoniously blends into a cohesive and coordinated interior designed space.
Elegance – in design, an adjective used to pertain to certain textures that when used give off a classy, polished and sophisticated feel to the space. Coupled with lighting and color, elegance emits a certain vibe in interiors that spell out high-end and stylish.
For the month of June, OUR HOME decides to marry the two concepts together to create interiors that imbibe a decidedly mixed blend of furniture and accessories but at the same time make use of textures, colors and finishes that evoke class and opulence. For this month, OUR HOME introduces your home to Eclectic Elegance, and creates different looks that capture a variety of pieces that when used together still give off an elegant and sophisticated mood.
The entrance focal, for the very first time in the spirit of being eclectic, combines both a living and bedroom setting. The bed was carefully chosen for it’s rose gold frame to evoke an elegant vibe. Printed beddings with a distinctly Oriental feel don the plush mattress eliciting an eclectic look. Pillows and throws coordinate with the sheets in shades of blue and pink adding a quirky mood. Flanking the bed is a pair of rose gold bedside tables with glass tops and on top, table lamps in crisp white shades with crystal and glass bases complete the look. A pair of planters on both sides also mirrors the elegant feel of the space, as both are clad in gold. A Rococo champagne-gilt framed mirror above the bed adds a regal touch. In front, a carefully chosen living room ensemble accentuates the elegance of the bed. A two-seater and three-seater couch face each other creating continuity to the bedroom vignette. Plush upholstery fabrics in beige clothe the sitting pieces that are punctuated with silver studs and tufted buttons. Velvet and satin pillows in blues and pinks complete the vignette and at the same time coordinate the colors of the beddings. A center table in gold with a glass top enhances the posh ambiance. On top, accouterments are focused on textures and finishes as gold cubes on stands in different heights and gold bowls heighten the elegant feel. A bouquet of pink stargazer lilies on a tall silver glittered vase becomes the centerpiece. Side and console tables echo the gold and glass theme while a shag rug in gold and champagne threads anchor the setting in place.
The left window focal takes a different approach to Eclectic Elegance. This time, a white Victorian wrought iron daybed takes center stage as it also dons blue and pink coordinating sheets. An area rug is placed in front to add a comfort and style. A white acrylic center table contains gold and silver accessories and white and pink flowers, again for a consistent feel. Flanking the bed, a white bedside table to one side and a white chest of drawers on the other side match the color palette.
The main window focal is really a testament to mixing and matching styles but the end result is still an exercise in harmony. The center is where a glass-topped table for four is situated. Four high back dining chairs in bright blue surround the table. The chairs are a contemporary adaptation of an English Wing Chair and matched with a modern glass table makes for a good eclectic pairing. Behind, a console table and a pair of shelves contain accessories that mirror the elegance of the setting as gold, silver, copper, rose gold and glass and crystal dominate. Tall floral arrangements in pink and large candles on the table add height and provide a wow factor. Towards the periphery, modern beds, one in a black wrought iron frame and another in a chrome frame add a diverse feel to the window, showcasing a variety of styles mixed together. Printed beddings and linens provide an interesting color palette as patterns in floral hues of pinks and blues cap off the look. The living area settings also work within an eclectic theme as beige L-shaped sectional sofas take center stage. This time, center, side and console tables offer a mélange of textures and finishes to compliment the color palette. Combinations in wood and glass as well as steel and glass work well within the mix, emphasizing the eclectic theme. Tabletop accessories are focused on polish and shine with gold, silver, glass and crystal hogging the spotlight. The color scheme remains consistent though, with blue and pink throw pillows providing accents yet maintaining an elegant feel by employing satin, velvet and moiré’ fabrics.
The entire store draws on the eclectic theme by creating small and identifiable pockets that echo a variety of mixed and matched interior settings. Masculine settings stand out in black and brown leather getting a polished treatment via the addition of gold accessories. White and yellow evoke a serene and crisp feel yet elicit a timeless class. Greys and charcoals are mixed with steel and glass for a restrained, contemporary yet sophisticated ambiance. Mixing and matching styles and trends, finishes and texture, palettes and schemes can be a walk in the park with the right furniture and accessory pairings and in OUR HOME for the month of June, we’re taking it a notch higher by providing ideas for your elegantly eclectic home.
